Toys & Games – Pitch Your Green Idea
Transcript
Pitch Your Green Idea is a board game about sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation. So within the game, you design a solution for an eco-social problem and you get small tasks. So you develop the idea of step-by-step within in between you get questions about sustainable entrepreneurship. So you gain some more knowledge about the whole topic as well as getting inspiration by certain decision tasks where you have to decide on social, ecological, and economical aspects about your fictional project. But you can also play the game with a real project which you had already or with a goal to really find a real project. And then you get different tasks when you already have the project beforehand. You bring in and you can work on it more precise, and get questions, where you already thought, “oh, I have to work on this or that,” but never have the time for it or never took the time for it. Then within the game, there are these small questions and small tasks which make it easier to work on it in a very short amount of time. And besides that, playing the game was also fun. You learn a lot, you laugh together, and you make nice experiences which help with remembering the new knowledge even better.
The game starts with a task where you get a social or ecological problem by chance. And another card which gives you any attribute. So you have to come to find a solution for the problem by using the attribute. And it doesn’t fit together at the first thought. So thinking outside of the box is one thing we force the players to. And then when they have the first slight idea, they presented to each other, get feedback, and then when they, while they play on, they get more and more small tasks, whether they have to work on their idea, make it more precise in between because of these other cards and tasks they get, they get inspiration, what they could also include in their idea. So it’s really interesting to watch that even people who thought in the beginning, “I don’t have ideas, I’m not creative or anything.” Everyone comes up with an idea, at least at the second step. So in the end, everyone has got an idea, which is quite good. And sometimes they’re even really good ideas with where I say, “please, please realize them.” It’s a very nice experience to watch that.
Since Pitch Your Green Idea is the result of my master thesis, I’ve done a lot of research about gamification and learning with games, and I’m sure that games are one of the best thing to learn because, what is the first thing we do as kids? We play. We learn everything by playing, and I think we should come back to it, or never lose this ability to play and to learn with games. Playing is learning to live. So I made sure that in the board game Pitch Your Green Idea it’s not only about creating content or getting content served in a certain way, but also to have fun with it and to really come into a play, into a flow. Because I think that is what makes it successful in learning.
