What I notice about women in general is that they tend to solve problems on their own and this for a too long period of time. I guess perfectionism has a lot to do with it, and also feeling ashamed to open up and to disclose some weaknesses has a lot to do with it.
So a lot of women used to claim to do everything on their own. While of course, this is also a big resource those women have. It’s also a problem when it comes to starting your own business, because it keeps starting your business way harder, and your time and your resources could also be invested in a better way. So from my own experience, I know how hard it is to admit that you need some help, like some knowledge from others, like some advice, etc. But I also learned that I am way faster when I can delegate things and when I have other people to help me and to get my vision out the world.
And what I notice about mompreneurs, is that they tend to seek support earlier in the entrepreneurial journey and they are more open to seek support. They, for example, look online and Facebook groups and ask for advice. They go to meetups and be in the real world. And they also seek support and coaching. And I think the reason is time. Because as a mom, and I’m also a mother of two. You really lack time and you notice that time is the most precious resource you have. And you have a lack of time. If you want to build a successful business as a mom, it’s really important to manage your time wisely. And this is the reason why I experience mompreneurs coming to coaching at earlier point in their entrepreneurial cycle.
Becoming and being a mompreneur has a lot to do with learning new skills, and often in the first phase you’re confronted with learning new hard skills like business related skills, economics, and so on. And of course, there are a lot of ways to learn those skills, like YouTube, podcasts, reading the right books, and getting consultancy, etc.. But when it comes to coaching and when it comes to growing into this new role of being a mompreneur, it’s the most important topic is self-confidence, self-awareness and self-worth. And this is so important to work on this, because if you’re not confident, if you’re not self-aware and if you are not aware of your own self-worth, you block yourself to being successful.
And of course, being and becoming a mompreneur comes along with a lot of fears and expectations, like, am I smart enough? Am I really brave enough to do it? Might i be an imposter. Am I good enough? Or expectations like I need my business like running in two days successfully. And expectations like I have to manage it all in a perfect way, like my kids, my family life, my love life, and so on. And these fears and expectations make it way harder for you to grow into this new role.
Also, and this is kind of sad, but it’s like proven by studies, new mothers notice a decrease in their self-worth. So they realized that they felt more worthy being like not a mother than they feel when they have a child. I think that’s really kind of sad, but it’s something you can work on. What I experienced with the coachings skills, that when you work on your confidence, on your self awareness and, on your self worth. It really lifts your business and it lifts you into this new role as a mompreneur. So, make sure you work on this.
