Starting a conversation is a very, very difficult thing. And so many people don’t dare to go towards people and start a conversation, but you have to keep in mind that people are very interested in talking about themselves. So if you want to start a conversation it’s good to start with a question, not very private. You can start and say -Hey, what do you think about the speech that person has held before? Or how do you like this place? Or where are you from?- Just start with a question that is not too personal. Also, an advice on networking events, you don’t go too deep in topics. So start with a question and with compliments, but you have to do the compliment honestly. If you think that somebody has bad hair that day, don’t tell them -You have good hair-. But if you come and say -Hey, you have a really nice dress and with this dress you seem energetic. You see plenty of energy- Yes, this is good. You have a good attitude. And that’s a good thing. It’s also when I do some compliments, I also try not to say -Hey, you have a nice handbag, or you have nice shoes- because for me, it’s never just the accessories. It’s always the personality, which is inside. So, I more like to do some compliments, or maybe I would say -Hey, this handbag is perfect for you because it shows energy. It shows something to do with your character, for example-. That’s how I do compliments. Not only on things, but more on energy.
Also, you can start talking about the topic. I just often ask, what are you doing in life? So, where are you living and what’s your profession?

A small talk is a form of conversation deeply associated with extroverted people who never have to spend a minute thinking about a topic worth opening their mouth. For us introverted ladies, small talk is everything but effortless. Difficulty number one might be the question of how to approach strangers, although networking is a huge thing to foster your business success. Without talks, no networking.
