Self-compassion is part of the MBSR training. One of the deeper topics of it is self-compassion, and actually I did a course, last year for six days, it was very intense. And since that I’m wearing like a bracelet. It’s the red one, which reminds me of self-compassionate. The definition comes from Dr.Kristin Neff. She kind of explored it, she did studies around this topic and she said if you’re having a hard time, for example, where you made a mistake or you are kind of angry on yourself because you did something not like you expected, that you handle yourself, like you would handle a friend, a very good friend. So you wouldn’t criticize your friend. You wouldn’t be like mean you wouldn’t be like angry all the time and judging. So this really helped me so much to be much more friendly to myself and to support me, especially in times where I am having a hard time, for example, when my business, maybe not running how I expected it to be or if it takes longer, because, I mean, a lot of entrepreneurs probably know that it’s never as fast as we expect. You probably know entrepreneurs, Female/Male whatever. They’re all facing many challenging situations. I mean, I really know that I just started two years ago, so everything was new. I really had to try everything from the first time for myself, even I had mentors also. And as you all know, entrepreneurship needs a lot of time of focusing, on topics which are very necessary and important. For example, like accounting and controlling and all that stuff. And maybe you think that you are not very good with numbers, for example. And then like a lot of self-talk is coming up it is really about supporting yourself. And that you really , for example, not saying in a complicated situation to saying, ‘oh my God, I did a mistake , why I’m so stupid’ or whatever. It’s like, ‘wow, I’m having a weird time or like a difficult time and maybe I need some time with friends or I need some like a good mentor should take time for it to find a good one’. So asking yourself, what do you need right now and how could you support yourself and maybe who could help you in this case? So it’s really changing your perspective and looking for a solution instead of being problem orientated. It is also, I would say that you accept kind of your humanness, let’s say, because we are not on this world to make everything perfect and especially not in business life because everything is probably new in the beginning. So it really means that we are kind to ourselves and supporting.
Like in general, I would say if you practice your self compassion, you really get a better consciousness about your inner feelings, and you really get to know yourself better. And in a way, both as you really get to know a friend better, also let’s say in difficult times, people grow closer together, and it’s also what happens with yourself. The best thing you can do, is spending time with yourself especially and maybe in harder times like take time for a walk or for writing, for reflection, for journaling, and then you really get a better resilience in your life as well. So you can better, for example, handle problems in the future or like confronting situations. Self-compassion is also very important to stay healthy from your physical body, because I mean, maybe your experiences before but for example, if I have a feeling I get sick, I have in my head like, “oh, no, I don’t want to be sick, I don’t want to be sick.” snd then I’m kind of maybe judging myself that I maybe did something wrong. Maybe I wasn’t wearing a warm jacket or so. But if you do it the other way round, if you change your perspective, let’s say and you say, I’m saying, I’ll take care of myself, what do I need right now? What do I need to feel right now? Maybe as well. So you could also ask yourself what kind of emotion you are having a lack of right now. And then you can ask yourself, how can you get this emotional? For example.
