It is very, very important to have unexpected parts in a story because our brain is trained for noticing the unusual. That’s very important, it comes from our heritage because, where we came from, there were dangers all over the place, and our brain always had to be on guard of the environment that was changing, and things that could harm us, endanger us, changed very quickly, very dramatically. And that’s why it’s so important to do something unusual.

And it doesn’t have to be very hard to do unusual things. Sometimes you just can do the opposite of what people expect. Here is this example. That’s what I’m using to grab the attention of people. That’s a virus as a pet. A virus is something disgusting that makes us yucky and it’s something so cosy as a pet. I just had great, great results with that, using for Facebook ad strategy, asking people what can a virus do for your Online marketing? Use it as a pet, and suddenly I had their attention and could grab it even further to draw into my story.

If I just had shown like a teddy bear, no one would have noticed. That’s an example for something unusual. A virus, as a pet.

Of course, those unexpected things you can integrate in your story and you might think that you have to be a hero or we are heroes, aren’t we? And heroes have to be great all the time. But that’s not true. We can relate to heroes if they are flawed, we don’t like perfect people because we are not perfect. That’s why I’m often telling about my flaws, I don’t say that I can’t write which is not true. I’m a very good writer, so I cannot be flawed in my expertise. But I can be flawed in my story, in other aspects.

For example, I have toothpaste all over the place in the morning, I just don’t know how it comes to the different places in the bathroom, but I manage to. And that’s how I put a connection with people or I share back, I always curl my hair. So that’s something I don’t like about myself, but I share that with people and say “Yes, Okay, She’s very good in her expertise, but she’s still flawed”. And I use something a little bit funny, a little bit unexpected about myself, that does not damage my reputation.
