That’s the whole point of a landing page: your call to action. So like we mentioned earlier, you have your content, which is your pitch, and then you have a sign up form. And then you want to have a call to action that brings people to the sign up form, depending on how your page is structured.
Sometimes you have calls to action. So like buttons that say: sign up now, buy, or something like that. And then maybe a form at the bottom. Sometimes your only call to action is to submit the form. And it depends on how you structure your landing page, but really the call to action is the most important part of the landing page. You want to make sure then, that is that the text is clear. So people either sign up, join, join the next call, give me a call, schedule a demo. Anything like that, that that text should be really concise. And also the color and placement should be obvious. So a rule of thumb is that as soon as you open up your window or your screen, your call to action should immediately be visible.
So if you go on to any website, right? Like I mentioned Asana, cause I just checked their website, but even like Intercom, Asana, Trello, Evernote, MailChimp, every all of these websites have a very clear call to action. It’s always like: sign up now, or sign up for free, or get a free trial. And it’s always immediately, right, when you load the page, you can see it. That is the most important thing. You always want your call to action, to be clear, visible, and as soon as you open the page, it’s there, you don’t want people to have to scroll and scroll and scroll to find it. It is super important. And also placement is another thing that you have to make sure that is correct.
You have to be confident about what you’re selling, I think, but when it comes to your landing page, really, it’s just a page on your website. At the end of the day, it can be changed. It can be updated based on performance. If you are say, you’re setting up a landing page because you are running a paid campaign, then I would suggest that maybe you start on a smaller budget before you push, you know, all your money through this campaign to this landing page. If you want to test it out, start with a smaller budget, but at the end of the day, it’s just a page on a website. It really, it can be changed. We are always changing our website pages, always updating, always testing. I think at the end of the day, it’s just a website page and what you really need to be confident about is the product or service that you’re offering.
I’m currently a content strategist at TrekkSoft. It’s a software company and we sell booking systems. I got this job from starting traveling like, you know, years ago when I graduated, I decided to go travel. I played around with a couple of ideas and I decided, why not start a travel blog? And that was where I realized I liked building websites. So I kind of enjoyed the process, although obviously it also can be frustrating understanding like HTML codes and things. But then, through the process, I realized I really like writing and a friend who is currently working at the company was like, are you interested in a job? We’re looking for content writers. And that’s how I started my role, right? So I started four years ago at this company as someone just writing blog posts and websites and then it grew to, you know, writing newsletters, running webinars. And writing about user experience. And my role over the last four years has really changed and evolved. And I guess my words of wisdom or my advice is really to follow what you’re curious about and ask questions. And even, I guess, you know, if you’re a founder or it’s just you and a team, without a team, just you, there are a lot of platforms online. There are a lot of online schools like this Female Founder Space, it’s great! There are a lot of different ways for you to follow your curiosity and, you know, who knows, like, that could turn into something that you really like doing. It’s always been a guiding principle of mine, like follow curiosity, find projects that I can get involved in. And that is I guess how everyone gets started.
