If you don’t have access to any of these services in your area, if you’re living in a small town and there’s only the public daycare system and you’re not finding a spot or you don’t have your parents around, so uh, really your next option would be to find a private babysitter that could come into your home. And I personally had a number of babysitters when I was still in my job and also when I was starting my business because I couldn’t rely 100% on the daycare hours. And of course, you know, it’s not easy to find the right person because it’s somebody that you have to be able to trust 100%. And it has to be someone that has your values and also of course somebody that your child will love and trust. There’s no recipe to find this person, but word of mouth is always a great way to go.
Personal recommendations, I mean, there’s a number of websites where you can start to look betreut.de for instance, or even eBay. Kleinanzeigen has listings sometimes. And then it’s a matter of interviewing, testing, trying out. Sometimes you have to trust before you know whether it’s going to work out, you know, because there’s no way to know if it’s going to work until you’ve tried it. I can only say you have to let go a little bit and for letting go, you get a lot in return, especially if you give someone that trust, they will usually not disappoint you.
I guess before you go into the search for the right babysitter. You need to identify exactly what your needs are and your child’s needs and so that you have a clear idea of what you’re looking for before you go into an interview with a potential babysitter. And also know exactly how much time you need from them and what role exactly they’re going to be playing. So if you have a clear idea, I think it’s easier to filter out the people that don’t fit in the end. I think it’s very important, not just as a parent or as a entrepreneur, but as any business owner and founder is really to stay true to yourself, to listen to your gut, to listen to your instincts, and to trust yourself. And to trust that things will go well. And if they don’t, there’s always another solution. You react to situations. You try your best to plan ahead, but you can’t plan for everything, especially with children . And so it’s important to stay flexible and to not lose too much sleep over it. Cause we need our sleep to be able to function and we need our sanity. And just try it. Just go ahead and see where it takes you. I’m sure it will be successful.
