Why it is important for startups to become brands? Because they need to attract customers, they need to demonstrate their added value. I think one of the greatest examples for the last years for startups is startup Calm. It is the application for meditation and calmness. And their communication work really good because from the first sight, from the first sound, from the first touch, we do understand what are they about. They use really nice pictures of nature that calm down us from the first sight. They use really great and relax sound and they have really simple and not distracting logo and brand style. So with that, we can focus on ourselves and meditation and their branding do not distract us from this.

What is the aim to build brand? Isn’t it enough to be just a company or a trademark? Why everyone needs to become brand? Actually it is something about added value, when you want your company, your service or product be appreciated more by your customers. For example, we know lots of products, we know lots of companies, but we trust really few. And this is actually also what helps find the trust of your customer by having a brand, because they can recognize you, your voice, your style, your type, and your actions. And this forms the added value to your company, product and service.
Actually, what differs the brand from, for example, the trademark. The brand, it is a company, a product or a service with purpose, with voice, with style and do with action. Actually, the brand is the one who is brave enough to take actions. For example, you have lots of people that you know, less people that you trust and really little that you love. That is actually what is Branding about, to make people love you, your service and product, because you have purpose, because you have voice, because you take action and because you have your own unique style. What does the brand consist of? It consists of purpose: why you are here. Actions: what you actually do, what you deliver. Sound and voice: how you sound, what is your tone of voice. And your style: how do you look like. This refers all to logos, branding and any visual communication you can use online or offline.
Brand image is a set of emotions, associations with your product, service or company. Actually, it is something the person sees, feels and associates you with. For example, let’s say Apple, do you see a fruit or a company? I think fifty-fifty people, half of us think about fruit, but maybe the bigger half thinks about Apple. And you visualize the company, the brand, the products they produce. This is actually the set of emotion and pictures in your head about the company. This is brand image.
I think one of the most important thing you need to keep in mind while developing your brand: think digital. This is a advice I would like to give you. Think digital. The majority of your communication will go online. So think how you will look like sound like and interact like did in digital world. Think about your website, think about your social media and try to keep it in mind while developing your brand. Think digital!
