It’s all really wonderful and fine to have the idea of States of wellness. But, the passion that I have as a teacher is most of us have moments when we’re seriously doubting when we have no idea what we’re going to do, where we feel down. One of the biggest things that I teach is, back to the second part of this wellness is energy. We have a lot of self image that we have learned to do. And one of those things is very fundamentally, a lot of us have learned to lower our energy. Why? Because if my energy is low, literally my physical energy, I’m going to feel very specific feelings and I’m going to wire my brain in a very specific way if my brain, let’s just give you a very simple example. How many of you have gone out not having breakfast, been super stressed? You’re having a fight with your boyfriend and then you’re going to go have a nice meeting and your energy level is low. Why? Because you haven’t eaten, you’re contracted, you’re stressed. What happens to your expression? It becomes, let’s say not the expression that you would wish for, not the thing that you’re trying to do. One of the easiest, simplest ways that you can maintain a state of energy is literally jump up and down for five minutes. If you want a simple, quick way to get energy into your body. Move. Let me say it another way, and the expression of energy in our body, our body cannot express or it’s a body that is in fight or flight or freeze, which most of us relate to low energy. We freeze, we collapse, we contract. For a body, that means you’re about to be food. And so one of the quickest ways that you can shift a state and maintain a state is to practice regular, simple movement. That doesn’t even mean going out and doing yoga, although highly recommended. It means: A, noticing, wow, my energy is low right now. B, very important, I want a different experience. And third, do something different. If I’m saying, wow, my energy level sucks and I stay sitting and not looking and not dreaming, it’s not going to change, but the quickest, quickest, quickest way to change that is jump up, put out a song and dance, dance, dance, move your body, get your breathing amplified. Okay, one way, second way is what if I’m super jacked up? I’m like super nervous. Yeah. Starting to breathe is not going to make that easier. It’s going to make it kind of, if you’re very amped up and contracted because of it, move and breathe in a more passive way. Why? Because what you’re trying to do is you’ve got a lot of energy coming through a container that’s tight, so move that body, move your body, stretch gentle movements, and bring a lot of breathing. Those are two ways that you can every day, all the time, at any moment, no matter where you are, affect your energy level.
