Compassion is a must-have quality in leadership, not only in future but also today. Because having compassion with the other or with the situation or with the environment gives us a far better feeling of being stable and being able to come into a sense of calmness, and through this calmness actually allows new ideas, new creative opportunities to emerge. And if we don’t give ourselves self-compassion, if we don’t give others the opportunity to be compassionate with one another, or as I said, with the situation or the environment, then we’re still going to stay in a certain flight mode, in a fear mode, in a survival mode, and in that we won’t find the best answers for a very unknown future.
I’m experiencing that when I’m able to truly listen, to be very present with the other, and to acknowledge that the other has all answers in them, then I can be in a compassionate, uh, relationship with that individual. Meaning I will allow that individual to share, to have emerge[d], whatever he or she feels is the right thing or so sees as the right thing to discuss. But if I’m constantly in my own head, thinking about my own agenda and trying to think about my own goals, then there won’t be an opportunity for me to be really compassionate in the situation with the other. So, the more that we’re present, the more that we’re there for the other, and really listening, really understanding, and giving this individual the knowing that he or she has everything in them for the right thing to emerge, I think will lead to better results.
